Origin

Rio de Janeiro. Copacabana Beach. I was in Rio to shoot for my BeachGames book and simultaneously mentor 12 students in one of my photo essay workshops. I find that if I am seriously shooting during a workshop it is a better experience for my students. We simultaneously put their pictures up on the wall and mine as well. That way we can see real time progress or failure. One morning after critiquing the class on their previous day’s work, it was time for all to go out and shoot their personal projects for the week. About the time we were about to disperse a dark storm rolled in. Some of my students took this to mean that they could not go shoot. So I suggested we hit the streets. I told them I felt that rain and storms are a good thing. Usually dramatic light and action. Anyway we headed for the beach and I simply shot this picture while we were waiting to cross the street. Once I saw that storm sky, it was game on...
